Biography

 Dr. Sandipan Ganguly is the Senior Research Officer in Division of Parasitology. Previously he was a Post Doctoral Faculty in Saint Louis University School of Medicine for two years. He is a Chemistry Major (1996) and Biochemistry post graduate (1998) from University of Calcutta. Dr. Ganguly has acquired his PhD degree also from University of Calcutta and has joined NICED in 2005. His publications include many scientific papers in renowned International journals, one cover page photograph and one book chapter. He has attended more than 17 National and 15 International symposiums and workshops and presented papers on various infectious diseases issues. Dr. Ganguly has been working on various aspects of enteric parasitology with special emphasis on molecular and cellular aspects of pathogenesity in these parasites. His major present focus is on the molecular analyses of rRNA biogenesis, mechanism of its formation and its use as a drug target in Giardiasis. Study the effects of oxidative stress on microaerophilic Giardia at its cellular, genome, proteome and metabolomic level, molecular diagnosis of enteric parasites, molecular epidemiology of Coccisides and other enteric parasites in immunocompromized patients. He has visited Gunma University, Keio University, Tokai University and Okayama University, Japan under JICA training program in 2007 and National Institute of Health, Bethesda, Maryland, USA in 2008. He is an invited lecturer and paper setter and examiner in several Universities like Departments of Microbiology, Zoology, Environmental sciences, Calcutta University. West Bengal University of Technology. Guide for PhD students from University of Calcutta, Utkal University, Jadavpur University. He is a member of The Indian Science Congress Association, Society for Biological Chemists, India, Indian Society for Parasitology, India and Immunology study group, West Bengal, India. He has achieved several prestigious awards of National and International repute including the Young Scientist Award (2003) from International Union of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (IUBMB) and presented his work during 2nd Human Proteomics and 19th International Congress of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology in Montreal, Canada. Dr. Ganguly has been awarded by DST Fast track Young Scientist Award (2005-2006) from Department of Science and Technology, Govt. of India and Sir Sriram Award (2007-2008) from National Academy of Medical Sciences, India. He has also been awarded by the Best Poster Award in 15th National Congress of Parasitology, in 2001 at Jodhpur, India and Best Poster Award in Frontiers in Molecular Biology in 2003 at Kolkata. Dr. Ganguly is an invited expert to deliver radio talks in All India Radio on topics of public interest in infectious gastrointestinal diseases. He has conducted several training programs and workshops including CDC International workshop on diarrheal parasites (2008) for doctors and researchers. He has attended several training courses in molecular biology, immunology, cell biology, biotechnology and bioinformatics and participated in several investigations on infectious diseases and parasitic diarrhea. He is an invited reviewer of National and International journals like Parasitology International.
