Biography
"We are mainly working on diabetes and eye diseases. Prolonged exposure to diabetes can cause various short and long term complications like diabetic cataract and retinopathy. Though there is a treatment for cataract by surgical extraction of cataract lens and insertion of intra ocular lens (IOL) and also laser surgery for retinopathy, but it is cost effective and also may cause postoperative problems. In order to overcome these problems, it is necessary to find out the other alternative approaches to prevent or delay cataract and retinopathy. In our lab, we are trying to find out not only the possible mechanisms involved/associated with these diseases but also prevent or delay the onset and progression of cataract and retinopathy by dietary agents/ natural sources. We have screened many dietary agents/ sources that are effective in delay of diabetic cataract inn experimental animals."
