Research Interest

Dr. Bhattacharya investigates the safety and efficacy of intra-arterial stem cell delivery in small and large animal model of ischemic stroke and its related mechanisms of neuroprotection. He has a vast experience in small and large animal surgical skills with a specialization in intra-arterial (intra-carotid) stem cell delivery in ischemic stroke. His research interest also lies with the regulatory RNA mediated mesenchymal stem cell engineering and nanoparticle based targeted drug delivery to the brain. During his doctoral studies at IIT(BHU), Varanasi he explored the underlying mechanism fordown-regulation of Aquaporin-4(AQP4) water channelby NSAID (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug).Presently, he is working in collaboration with Nobel Laureate Prof.Andrew Schally on the aspect of neuroendocrine regulation in ischemic stroke. He has international collaborative research projects with Harvard Medical School, USA and Miller School of Medicine, USA in the field of stroke that includes ischemic stroke induced optic neuropathy and strategies of mitochondrial protection by stem cell therapy. Dr. Bhattacharya has more than 35 research publications that includes original research articles, reviews and book chapters. He has delivered several invited research talks and presented research finding in more than 50 scientific conferences both national and international. He has also served as IBRO teaching faculty for IBRO Neuroscience School. He has numerous travel awards from different government funding agencies in his credit. He also serves as the editorial board member of many international journals and invited reviewer of more than 30 international journals including Nature group.
