Biography

"The following research contributions have been made in the field of biomaterials, tissue engineering and medical devices. Developed collagen based three-dimensional in vitro intervertebral disc (IVD) model (lab-on-a-chip). Fabricated aligned collagen scaffolds and collagen or hyaluronic acid micorgels for annulus fibrosus (AF) repair. Isolated progenitor annulus fibrosus cells from human IVD for tissue regeneration. Developed affinity cell chromatography device for CD34+ cell separation from umbilical cord blood using protein-conjugated polyacrylamide matrix. Developed hyaluronan particles based drug and gene delivery platform. Fabricated novel poly(vinyl caprolactam) based temperature-responsive tissue engineering scaffolds. Fabricated polyacrylate based polymeric leukocyte filter device for safer blood transfusion. Fabricated acrylate-based smoke filter. Research Interest

Technological innovation through strong basic knowledge in biological sciences thrive my interest in translational research with the aim of improving public health. I am interested in pursuing translational biomedical research involving fabrication of biomaterial based medical devices, finding novel therapeutic strategies for tissue regeneration and developing in vitro platforms to understand disease pathology. Our group is also focused on developing new methods for the identification and isolation of therapeutic cell types for tissue repair, fabrication of cell and drug delivery platform and designing artificial cellular niches for stem cell homing.
