Chiradeep Basak

Biography

After completing his Master of Laws from National Law School of India University (NLSIU), he joined Ministry of Housing & Urban Poverty Alleviation (MHUPA) Chair on Urban Poor & the Law & Centre for Environmental Law Education, Research & Advocacy (CEERA), NLSIU as Research Officer in 2013. He bagged the Best Graduating Student Gold Medal, for his overall performance in B.A.LL.B (Hons.). He was awarded a Research Fellowship under the auspices of MHUPA in 2012 and cleared UGC-NET in 2013. He was re- designated as Assistant Professor of Law at NLSIU in 2014. ​He has interned as Teaching Assistant at West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences, Kolkata in 2012. He was involved in several Enviro-Legal Research Projects under the auspices of Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Environmental Law Institute, Washington D.C & University Grant Commission. He was assistant editor of CEERA's Journal of Environmental Law, Policy & Development and faculty at NLSIU's Distance Education Department. He has also organized and participated in several capacity building programs, seminars, workshops, consultations & International Summer School for Nordic students at Law School. He is an Eramus Mundus (European Union- India) Networking and Mobility Actions for Sustainable Technology and Environment in India Fellow. He has visited Rijksuniversiteit Groningen, The Netherlands as a visiting faculty during June, 2016. ​He is pursuing his doctoral studies at NLSIU, Bangalore and certificate course on specialized streams at Indian Law Institute, Delhi. His research interests include Environmental Law and International Human Rights Law. He has several publications in International and National Journals/Monograph Chapter. He has also presented his research findings in quite a few discussion forums. Presently, he is working as an Assistant Professor of Law at NLU, Assam. He is also the Coordinator of NLU, Assam's Centre for Environmental Law, Advocacy & Research (CELAR). He holds diploma in percussion and painting. He enjoys cycling, cardio training and cooking. In his free time, he watches multilingual movies of different genres and reads graphic novels of Marvel/Detective Comics (DC).
