Biography
Dr. O. P. Thakur completed his M.Sc in Physics with distinction in 1983 and Ph.D from Bhagalpur University. He started his career as a Lecturer in Delhi Institute of Technology (now NSIT), University of Delhi, in 1988. He has been a professor at the Institute since 2006. He has more than 28 years of experience of teaching and taught different B.E. and PhD. courses with full satisfaction to the students as reported in their feedback. Prof Thakur has served as a member of the Board of Governors of NSIT, member of Board of Research Studies of FOT (DU), member of Academic Council, NSIT, and member of Combined Entrance Exam (CEE) Reforms Committee of Delhi University in addition to being a chairman / member of various other committees at Institute and University level. Prof Thakur has also long experience in handling different academic and administrative responsibilities at NSIT namely (i) Dean, Undergraduate Studies during April 2011-July 2013, (ii) Head, Department of Physics since Oct 2013, (iii) Centre Superintendent/ Coordinator of Theory Exam and also Centre Superintendent of various Entrance Exams at NSIT Centre for more than a decade (iv) He has set up a Materials Analysis & Research Lab for research students and two Physics labs for B E students. He has also been involved in curriculum development. Prof. Thakur has also been a member/ advisor to various Selection Boards/ Panel of Expert Committees at UPSC, DRDO, Delhi University, IIIT, NIT, IP University, UP Tech Univ, other State Public Service Commission and the Delhi Government for the appointment of faculty members & scientists. Prof Thakur has published more than 75 research papers in the leading International Journals and referred conference proceedings/book chapters in reputed publishers. He has also attended/participated in more than 60 national & international conferences/seminars as author, co-author, chairman/ reporteur of technical sessions. Under his supervision eight candidates have completed their PhD and currently four candidates are pursuing their PhD work from Delhi University. He has also served as mentor to innovation projects of Delhi University and other Govt. Organizations. His co-authored research paper has also won several best research paper awards. He is in the panel of referees of a no. of international journals namely IEEE Sensors Journal, IEEE TDEI, Intl Jour of "Materials Chemistry & Physics" (Elsevier), Ceramic International (Elsevier) etc and for proceedings of National & International Conferences. He is also working as a member of the Editorial Board and as member of Technical Programme Committee (TPC) of a no. of International Journals and International Conferences for the last 10 years.
Research Interest
His areas of research interest are Ceramic Materials (Dielectrics/ Ferroelectrics with elastic properties) and Multi ferroics, Electroceramics exhibiting electrostrictive & magnetostrictive properties for its sensing applications, Electrical Characterization of SC Heterostructures.
