Biography
Shri Acharya is presently on the Board of Neyveli Lignite Corporation Ltd., (NLC), a premier Lignite Mining cum Power Company of Government of India as Director (HR) with Headquarters at Neyveli, Tamil Nadu, India. He holds the apex HR Leadership position in the company, with an annual turnover of around five thousand crores engaging around 30,000 people in various parts of the country. • With an Hons. Degree in Economics from Ravenshaw College and Post Graduation in Personnel Management from Utkal University, he carries with him over 32 years of rich and varied experience of HR profession in BHEL (Heavy Engineering Sector), NTPC (Power Sector), NTPC-SAIL Power Company (Power Sector with blended culture of Steel Sector) and now in NLC (Mining cum Power Sector). • An expert in Strategic HR with equal proficiency in HR operations Shri Acharya earned accolade in handling field IR in upcoming Power Projects in troubled regions of Eastern and Central India in 19080s and 1990s when Union Militancy was a dreaded factor. He proved that handled with guts, grit and determination, IR governance can be made free from political manipulations and can be made a complementary tool for smooth company governance facilitating achievement of business goals. • During his tenure in corporate functioning over almost last one decade, he played an instrumental role in changing the face of HR from facility maintainer / provider to talent developer and business partner in the context of NTPC, the Mega Power Utility of Govt. of India. He also pivoted the e-application of HR Processes on SAP platform there and established the value and integrality of HR in acquisitions and mergers specifically in policy design and handling of related human and cultural issues. With his belief, ‘people at the core’ he is best known for his out of the box approaches to people issues and while heading the corporate HR of NTPC Power JV with SAIL, he successfully brought people from NTPC and SAIL together on one platform of a performance driven work culture. There he gave the company a wholly self designed ‘Competency Matrix’ suitable for the business and culture (of the company) which earned the company “Global HR Excellence Award” for innovative HR Practices in World HRD Congress 2011. Now as the HR Leader in NLC, a company traditionally rich in technical skills, he is engaged in strengthening of performance orientation by introducing new HR initiatives like Improvised Performance Appraisal System (IPAS), Leadership Development Programme (LDP) the Organization culture and climate Survey (OCCS) and performance linked variable pay matrix for all cadres. Under his leadership, NLC has won the ‘IPE HR Leadership Award 2012’ in the category of Organization with Best HR strategy in line with Business. • 05. Already a recipient of ‘HR Leadership Award’ 2011 from World HRD Congress and Employer Branding Institute of Asia, Shri Acharya was conferred with ‘Leadership & Inspiration Award’ by the Bengal Chamber of Commerce & Industry in 2012 in recognition of his leadership qualities. • A widely travelled and well trained person in India and Abroad, Shri Acharya lends his services in academics as a visiting faculty to many premier Business Schools and Management Institutions. • Presently as Chairman of National Institute of Personnel Management (Neyveli Chapter) and a member of the HR Committee of Standing Conference of Public Enterprises (SCOPE, India), he is actively associated with promotional activities for enriching HR profession as a whole.
