Dr. Anant Nigam

Biography

  India's and Jaipur's well-known Diabetes specialist Dr Anant Nigam is founder and Director of Nigam Diabetes Centre, one of the foremost Diabetes centres in India. His career spans over three decades, beginning in 1984-85 when he set up his Diabetes centre at Jaipur. Dr. Nigam is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians, Glasgow (UK). He has also been a Visiting Fellow at the Joslin Diabetes Center, Boston, and The Johns Hopkins University Diabetes Center, Baltimore, USA. He has delivered several invited lectures, keynote addresses and orations at various forums. Dr.Nigam delivered a ‘Teaching Lecture’ titled ‘Challenges of Insulin Therapy in Developing Societies’ at the International Diabetes Federation Congress at Dubai (2011). In 1997, he delivered an invited lecture ‘Diabetes: The Indian Perspective’ at the Division of Endocrinology & Metabolism at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, Baltimore, USA. He was awarded the Research Society for the Study of Diabetes Oration (2010). He has chaired important Scientific Sessions at most national and some important International meetings including the IDF (Melbourne 2013, Dubai 2011), the ADA’s Middle-East Congress (2012). He has been an evaluator of abstracts for the ADA’s Middle-East Congress (2012) and also for the IDF (2013). Dr. Nigam has conducted important research work in the field of Diabetes, published papers in national and international journals and contributed chapters in textbooks. He was on the scientific program committee of the IDF (2011 & 2013). He is on the advisory board of various national and international pharmaceutical companies. Dr. Nigam is a member of the European Association for the Study of Diabetes, the Professional Section of the American Diabetes Association & the Research Society for the Study of Diabetes in India. Dr.Nigam is a Founding Member of the International Foundation for Diabetes Prevention. He has been Chairman of the organising committees of both national and international conferences. Dr. Nigam has held several camps for various philanthropic societies such as Rotary International, and is often interviewed on national and regional TV channels.
