Biography

"Dr. Ravinder Kaur specializes in the field of regional development in geography. She has been working on urban-rural relations and analyzing how the intensity, nature, extent and direction of these relations have been varying in time and space. Her Ph.D was an attempt to bring forth the changing nature and intensity of urban-rural relations in India in general and the Inter-State Chandigarh Region in particular. The entire empirical exercise was conducted from the perspective of regional development to comprehend the changes in urban-rural relations with the emergence of Chandigarh as a newly planned city in 1953, a union territory in 1966 and thereafter as a regional capital city. She has supervised a doctoral candidate in this field who has been awarded the doctoral degree. Her other areas of interest are urban poverty (slums), policy studies and rural-urban transformation. These also form the focus of research of the PhD students working under her supervision. Keeping pace with the latest developments in tools and techniques of research and state of art technology, she undertook a professional training in the application of GIS at Indian Institute of Remote Sensing, Dehra Dun. She offers a course on Research Methodology in the department and has been identified as a Resource Person by Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR, Research Pool), New Delhi to deliver lectures in Research Methodology Workshops and Capacity Building Workshops for Faculty in Social Sciences.
