Biography
Mr. Richard Herbert has been Director of Petroleum Geo-Services ASA since May 10, 2017. Mr. Herbert is a petroleum geologist who has worked in the global upstream industry for more than 36 years. He started his career with Phillips Petroleum and then spent 19 years with BP working on international exploration and development projects with senior positions in Thailand, Mexico, USA, Colombia, and Angola as well as the UK North Sea. From 2003-2008 he worked for TNK-BP in Russia, first as Exploration Vice-President and subsequently as Executive Vice President of Technology. He then joined Talisman Energy in Calgary, Canada as Exploration Vice President before returning to BP in 2013 to join the upstream executive team as Chief Operating Officer, Exploration. Richard Herbert retired from BP at the end of 2016 and now works as an independent advisor. He holds a BSc in Geology from the University of Bristol in the UK.
