Biography

Dr.A.K.Venkatachalam acquired his MS in Orthopedics from one of Asia’s busiest orthopedic institutes, The Central Institute of Orthopaedics at Safdarjang hospital, New Delhi. His interests in Joint replacements took him to the UK where he gained extensive training in primary and revision at some of the best hospitals. These include hospitals in Northwest England, Scotland and Addenbrooke’s hospital. He acquired post graduate qualifications from India and the UK. Later he visited centers of excellence in knee surgery in Australia, Belgium and Dubai. He has spoken at international conferences in Arab health conference, Dubai and International medical tourism conference in Canada. In the UK he got a sound exposure in all super specialties like Joint replacements, revision surgery, arthroscopy, spinal surgery, paediatric orthopaedic surgery, hand and foot surgery and trauma. He has been working as a consultant in private hospitals in India and abroad for the last thirteen years. His teaching appointments include the post of an Associate Professor at the Chettinad medical college, Tamil nadu, India. He is presently a consultant at the Chettinad super specialty hospital. This hospital has state of the art infra-structure and equipment. He attracts patients from India and abroad. Dr. Venkatachalam has a particular interest in hip, knee and shoulder replacement, arthroscopic surgery and regenerative surgery. He helps patients with complex hip and knee revision and patient specific instrumentation. He founded the Madras Joint replacement clinic with the goal of providing joint replacement, joint preservation and regenerative medicine all under one roof. He utilizes the infrastructure of affiliated private hospitals in Chennai to provide cutting edge surgical and non surgical options. He has introduced several innovations in joint replacements. The latest is the CR oxiniuum knee which allows young patients to get maximum function and mileage from their artificial knee.
