Biography

Dr Habib Hasan Farooqui, MD is currently serving as Associate Professor at Indian Institute of Public Health-Delhi, Public Health Foundation of India (PHFI). He has been a full time employee of PHFI since 2008, providing leadership to research, teaching and training in infectious disease epidemiology and pharmaceutical economics. He has earned his MD (Doctor of Medicine) from Banaras Hindu University, India and has undergone advanced training in Decision Analytic Modelling (for vaccines) and Vaccinology at London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM), Infectious Disease Modelling at Imperial College, London, Pharmaceutical Policy Analysis at Utrecht University, Netherlands, Advanced HIV at Sydney University and Pedagogy at Boston University. His area of expertise includes Vaccinology and Decision Analytical Modelling. In his current position, Dr Farooqui is member of various expert groups viz. India, Vaccinology at Vaccine Center, LSHTM, Task Forces of Indian Council of Medical Research’s and various technical committees for Government of India. He has also provided technical advice to High-level Expert Group (HLEG) on 12th five-year plan and Task Force on Public Health Cadre constituted by Planning Commission, Government of India and Ministry of Health, Maldives on Pandemic Preparedness Planning. Prior to his appointment with PHFI, Dr Farooqui has worked as consultant at WHO-SEARO and provided technical and operational advice to National and State Governments on infectious disease surveillance, routine and supplementary immunization activities and governance of immunization programmes. During 2004-2007, Dr Farooqui has worked as Resident Medical Officer at Banaras Hindu University and provided leadership to clinical and health service delivery at Rural and Urban Health Centers of the University and management of national health programme. Since, 2008 Dr Farooqui has contributed significantly to research and capacity building. He has successfully completed projects on Situational Analysis of Rotavirus and Pneumococcal Vaccines in India funded by Gates Foundation, Multinational Enterprise (MNE’s) Impact on Global Development Challenges funded by European Union, Inequalities in Immunization in India funded by Save the Children, Identification of Priority Policy Research Questions in Access to Medicines in India funded by WHO-Geneva, Procurement and distribution of medicines in India: 7 States study funded by Norwegian Government and Governance and Accountability in Medicine Supply in India funded by Results for Development, Washington DC. He has also been conferred awards and research scholarships to make research presentations at various national and international conferences and have peer reviewed research publication in indexed medical journals.
