Biography
Dr Kavitha Menon is presently working as an Associate Professor at the Indian Institute of Public Health Gandhi Nagar since July 2015. Dr Menon, trained as a nutritionist, graduated her MSc and MPhil from Sri Avinashilingam Deemed University, Coimbatore; and PhD from the University of Otago, Dunedin, New Zealand. Dr Menon has 15 years of academic experience in different countries including India, Malaysia and New Zealand. Her research interests include maternal and infant nutrition, micronutrient deficiencies, nutritional assessment, nutrition issues of cancer patients and dietary intake assessments of different populations. The research projects focus on public health nutrition issues such as micronutrient deficiencies in women of reproductive age and infants in India and Malaysia. She has ongoing research collaborations with the University of Otago, New Zealand; University of Nottingham, UK; and Advanced Medical and Dental Institute (AMDI), Universiti Sains Malaysia. Currently, she is a senior research fellow at AMDI, USM. She received National merit scholarship for postgraduate studies, India; International doctoral scholarship, University of Otago, New Zealand; and Nestle Nutrition Institute fellowship for further training in maternal and infant nutrition. The School of Health Sciences, USM awarded her with the best lecturer and excellent service awards for contributions.
