Biography

Dr. Sanghita Bhattacharyya has a M. Phil and PhD in Population studies from Jawaharlal Nehru University, India. She has a decade of experience in working on issues like maternal and child health, gender based violence. Her expertise includes conducting operation and evaluation research. At present she is engaged in number of research projects in maternal and child health in different states of India. Following are the research studies she has been involved at PHFI: Lead collaborator from PHFI for “Data Informed Platform for Health” collaborating with IDEAS project at LSHTM, funded by Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, in the state of Uttar Pradesh. Lead collaborator from PHFI for the RCT on “Community intervention to improve growth among children under-2 in rural India”, collaborating with University College of London and Ekjut ,India. It is funded by Wellcome trust, Medical Research Council & DFID. PI for the study on “Women’s perception of quality and satisfaction with maternal health services” which is supported by United States Agency for International Development (USAID). Wellcome Trust research fellow as part of PHFI- UK consortium, collaborated with Department of Public Health, University of Oxford in developing “ Operational Guideline to assess Near-miss for quality improvement programs in India”. Co-PI for the project on “Roadmap for achieving quality care for all institutional births in India”, funded by Maternal Health Task Force. Co-PI for “Evaluation of child health interventions” as part of Norway India Initiative program, collaborating with University of Oslo, funded by Norwegian Embassy. Researcher for the study on developing case studies on “Innovations in maternal and newborn health in India”, funded by Mac Arthur Foundation. Co-PI for the study on “Migration of Health Professionals”, commissioned by European Union. Co investigator of the project for International health institute, University of Melbourne “Developing an investment case for financing equitable progress towards MDGs 4 and 5 in the Asia Pacific Region”. She has considerable field exposure and has worked closely with civil society organizations and various state governments. For her current research studies she is working with researchers based at London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, University college of London, NPEU- University of Oxford, Immpact-University of Aberdeen She is the core faculty for the Demography course at the Indian Institute of Public Health. Previously she has worked with the Centre for Social Research as a senior researcher which is one of the leading women's NGOs in India working in the field of social action. She is the recipient of the Senior Research Fellowship awarded by the University Grants Commission, India. She has publications in reputed journals and has presented papers in national and international conferences.
