Shivangini Kar

Biography

Shivangini holds a Bachelor degree in Physiotherapy from SIMS, Meerut and Post Graduate in Health Management from the International Institute of Health Management Research (IIHMR), New Delhi. She is working in a capacity of Programme support coordinator in Health systems support unit at Public Health Foundation of India. She is part of the secretariat focused on healthcare delivery norms of the High level Expert Group on Universal healthcare, set up by the Planning Commission. She is also closely involved in National Initiative for Allied health Services (NIAHS), a project of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, GoI to augment the paramedical capacity in India through the establishment of nine institutes across the country, for which PHFI-HSSU is recently entitled as technical partner. Besides, she has also compiled Manual on Practical approaches to Hospital Infection Prevention and control which was launched on 1st Global Forum on Bacterial Infection. In the unit, she is responsible for providing technical support to the projects under the ambit of health systems support via concept designing, planning and managing. Before joining PHFI she had worked as a consultant (National Rural Health Mission- NRHM) in the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, New Delhi where she was involved in providing technical expertise to the ongoing programme. She had been a part of new initiatives by the Ministry like Maternal and Child Health Centre planning in all high focus districts of Jharkhand. During her tenure in the NRHM she supervised and supported a number of innovations and initiatives aimed at strengthening health systems and improving equitable access. She has also done extensive research on knowledge, attitude, behaviour and practices of Street children towards STI/HIV and Sexual health at Salaam Baalak Trust (NGO), on a project funded by FHI & USAID, based on which she has been offered to author a book on street children.
