Biography
Dr. M.Thanikachalam earned his PhD degree from the Institute for Ocean Management (IOM), Department of Civil Engineering, Anna University in the year 2001. In his doctoral research, he was working on Management of Coral Reef in Gulf of Mannar Using remote Sensing and GIS Techniques-With Reference to Coastal geomorphology and Land use. After his PhD, he joined as Research Scientist in IOM, Anna University. During this period he acts as project leader and successfully complete the following research projects: “Identification of Ecologically Important Areas in Indian Coast”, Sponsored by Ministry of Environment and Forest, Govt. of India, New Delhi. “Creation of Coastal Regulation Zone Information System for Effective Management of the Coastal Zone of Tamil Nadu”, Sponsored by Ministry of Environment and Forest, Govt. of India, New Delhi. “GIS Based Information System for Coastal Critical Habitat of Indian Coast”, Sponsored by Department of Ocean Development, Govt. of India, New Delhi. “Application of Remote Sensing Techniques to Coastal Wetland Ecology of Tamil Nadu with Special Reference to Mangroves”, Sponsored by Ministry of Environment and Forest,Govt. of India, New Delhi. “Coastal Wetland and Regulation Zone Mapping of Andaman and Nicobar Islands using Remote Sensing”, Sponsored by Space Application Cente, ISRO, Govt. of India, New Delhi.
