Biography
Dr. Mazhar Husain is one of the best doctors in the city of Lucknow, who has earned the distinction of being an expert in the field of neurosurgery. He is a senior consultant and chief neurosurgeon at the Sahara Hospital, Lucknow, while he is also the Head of the Department of Neurosurgery in K.G Medical University, Lucknow. Dr Husain's proven expertise in endoscopic neurosurgery and spinal surgery, using minimal invasive techniques, makes him a much respected person in the neurological circles of Lucknow. Dr Husain, who holds a record for performing about 650 to 700 operations per year, has successfully performed the first neurosurgery under hypothermic cardiac arrest in India. Dr. Husain’s clinical area of expertise is endoscopic neurosurgery and spinal surgery, with a focus on minimal invasive techniques. Dr. Hussain did his MBBS, MS, and M.Ch. (Neurosurgery) from the King George’s Medical College, University of Lucknow. He, then underwent training in neurosurgery from Prof. V. S. Dave and Prof. Goodwin Newton. He joined the neurosurgery faculty at the King George’s Medical College in 1984 and rose to become the HOD in 1994, a position he retained till Oct.2008. Dr. Hussain has published a number of scientific papers in many international journals, including 13 publications on technical developments in endoscopic neurosurgery - his core area of research. He has been a principal co-investigator in 8 research projects and has authored a number of chapters in seven books. Dr Husain has developed, and holds patent rights of a device for endoscopic lumbar discectomy that he developed in 2002.
