Biography

Dr Alex Thomas an Agricultural Engineer by profession, has nearly 30 years of experience in Watershed development, developing community managed irrigation projects, Environment Impact assessment (EIA) , preparation of Environment Management plans (EMP) and consultancy in rural development sectors . Accreditated by the Govt of India (NABET) as project coordinator (EIA) and (EMP) for River valley projects,Dr Thomas has conducted several EIA and EMP studies, Ken -Betwa river link project and Kelo irrigation projects are few of such projects. As manager AFC India Ltd,worked on projects funded by the World Bank, AFDB, EU Asian Development Bank (ADB)and Govt. of India. As Technical Advisor and team member of the European Union, worked for EU aided "Orissa Minor Irrigation Project" , was involved in developing farmer run irrigation projects in Odisha state.Dr Alex Thomas has undertaken several evaluation studies and project appraisal for national and international agencies. He joined the faculty of Department SWLEM in April 2012 and is actively involved in teaching , research and consultancy. He presently teaches graduate as well as post graduate students of Vaugh School of Agricultural Engineering. As Manager In-Charge AFC started the first grass root level project implementation for the company under DFID funded Watershed development project Odisha state.Dr Thomas has experience in sectors like livelihood,micro finance,rural water supply and sanitation,rural roads and infrastrcture and assessment of crop loss.

Research Interest

Watershed Management, Soil and water conservation, Environment Impact Assessment and Environment management plans, Irrigation management and rural development. Expertise in conducting evaluation studies, concurrent monitoring and appraisal of rural development projects. Nearly 27 years of Experience in implementaion of projects in different states of India.
