Biography
Er. Lal is an agriculture/irrigation engineer with over 14 years of research and consulting experience in applying remote sensing and GIS techniques for improved water resource management and agricultural production. He hold a bachelor degree in Agricultural Engineering from Allahabad Agricultural Institute (Deemed University), India and a Masters degree in Irrigation Engineering from Utah State University, USA. During his bachelor and masters degrees, Er. Lal has been awarded a scholarship and merit certificates in recognition of his academic excellence. Through various projects (both research & consulting) in his career, Er. Lal has focused on estimating evapotranspiration (ET) requirements for diverse crops/landscapes following conventional crop coefficient methods and by mapping ET spatially through remote sensing based surface energy balance models utilizing both airborne and satellite data. He has also assisted in consulting projects related to irrigation planning and management. Additionally, Er. Lal has authored several project reports and professional papers. Er. Lal joined Sam Higginbottom Institute of Agriculture, Technology & Sciences (SHIATS) in June 2013 as an Associate Professor in the Department of Soil Water, Land Engineering & Management (SWLEM). Later, he was appointed as the Head of Remote Sensing & GIS Unit. Recently, Er. Lal has been given the charge of Shepherd School of Engineering & Technology as its Dean. At SHIATS, Er. Lal is involved in conducting research and guiding both UG and PG students. Additionally, he provides consulting services in the aforementioned areas. Prior to joining SHIATS, Er. Lal was associated with Davids Engineering Inc., as an Agriculture/Irrigation Engineer & Remote Sensing Specialist. Davids Engineering Inc., is an U.S. based consulting company which provides professional engineering and scientific services in the U.S. and internationally. At Davids Engineering, Er. Lal was involved in various consulting projects related to the application of remote sensing & GIS techniques in irrigation management, hydrological studies and water resources engineering.
