Biography
Prof. Dr. ir. D. M. Denis graduated as an Agriculture Engineer in the year 1995 from SHIATS. He earned his M. Tech with major in Irrigation and Drainage Engineering from G.B.Pant University of Agriculture Technology and Sciences, Pantnagar in the year 1997. In his master’s he worked upon orientation of sprinkler laterals on steep slopes. He worked as a landscape engineer with a reputed company in New Delhi in 1998. Later in July 1998 he joined the then Allahabad Agricultural Institute as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Soil, Water, Land Engineering and Management. He was awarded his Ph. D in the year 2002 for the University of Allahabad. His designed the sprinkler system based upon the infiltration characteristics of soil. He was selected for the post of Associate Professor in the year 2006 and was appointed as a Professor through open post in the year 2010. Since 1998 he has served the SHIATS on several administrative posts such as Director Research , Foreign Students Advisor , Member Secretary, International Secretariat , Deputy Registrar (Academics) Joint registrar ( Academics), Coordinator for Developing Countries, International Secretariat, , Member Secretary for Central Sales and Purchase, Member Secretary for Academic audit committee, Deputy Dean (Post Graduate Studies), Deputy Dean( Faculty of Engineering), Chief Warden, Men’s Hostel, ,. He has been on several academic and administrative committees of the university. In the year 2008, he was awarded the prestigious Norman Borlaug Fellowship, by the United States Department of Agriculture USA, and worked with leading scientists at National Sedimentation Laboratory, Oxford, Mississippi and Alabama Agricultural & Mechanical University, Alabama USA. The field of research was “Agricultural Non-Point Source Pollution”. He is the Designative Representative (INDIA) for “Water quality research to evaluate the effects of agricultural conservation practices utilized in the Unites States and India.” Under UDSA Extramural Agreement: No. 58-6408-8-149FN. He conducted the Conducted International workshop with USDA on “Water quality research to evaluate the effects of agricultural conservation practices utilized in the Unites States and India.” From Sept 7th and 8th 2009 at Allahabad,India. He has been awarded Joint Japan /World Bank Graduate Scholarship Program (JJ/WBGSP) USA-2011-13 for The International Institute for Geo- Information Science and Earth Observation (ITC) for MSc in Geo Information Science and Earth Observation for Water Resources and Environmental Management,2011. He was recognized as one of the “Global Change Leader” by the University of Twenty, The Netherlands. His research interests include Eco Hydrology And Earth Observation, Geo Informatics In Water Resources, Surface Energy Balance System , Use Of Spatial Information in Evapotranspiration, Water Budgeting, Natural Resource Management, Crop Growth Modelling, Evaluation Of Irrigated Areas, Non-Point Source Pollution, Precision Agriculture, Pressurized Irrigation System, Soil Water Plant And Atmospheric Relationship, Water Quality, Modelling Watersheds, Hydrology, Water Balance and Agriculture Water Management. He has guided several under graduate, post graduate and four Ph. D thesis. He has visited The Netherlands, Germany, Belgium, Austria, Italy, Srilanka, China, Thailand, USA, Malaysia, Nepal and Indonesia for collaborative work. He has successfully completed six research projects related to Agriculture Water Management and use of ground and Space based observations with ISRO. Presently he is heading “Assessment of Spatial and Temporal Variation of Water Quality in River ganga using Remote Sensing Techniques” funded by ISRO and “Farming System Based Water Budgeting for Samrakalwana Village in Allahabad” funded by the UPCAR, Govt of UP, INDIA. He has authored three books namely Anti-Ragging laws in India and the world.
