Thomas Abraham

Biography

Since 2006 Dr Thomas Abraham is Professor, Department of Agronomy, Allahabad School of Agriculture, Faculty of Agriculture. He has an expertise in integrated nutrient management and organic farming and in 2012 he successfully completed the Certificate course in Organic Leadership Programme under the aegis of IFOAM Academy, International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movements, Bonn, Germany. His professional career spanning a total period of over 29 years consist of experience in teaching, research and extension [he had a stint of about 4 years, 11 months in his home state as Training Associate (Agronomy) at KVK, Mitraniketan, Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala [a Central Government Extension Project funded by Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR)]. He was the Head, Department of Genetics & Plant Breeding at SHIATS for 1 year during the session 2007-08. In 2012 he received the ICAR Best Teacher Award. He has undertaken 3 Research/Development Projects; In 2011 he concluded 1 Project as Principal Investigator of the National Project on Organic Farming (at SHIATS) sponsored by the National Centre of Organic Farming, Ghaziabad and funded by the Ministry of Agriculture, Government of India; Currently he is Nodal Officer [of Associate Partner (SHIATS)] of SAFBIN – Building resilience to climate change through strengthening adaptive small scale farming systems in rainfed areas in Bangladesh, India and Nepal [an European Commission Funded International Project]; he has travelled in 7 countries. He has supervised 60 M.Sc. & 4 Ph.D. Theses. He has about 150 publications, which include 8 Chapters in Books /Manuals, 43 National Journals, 7 International Journals, over 50 Technical & Popular articles; 4 Training Handbook/Manuals on Organic Farming. He has participated in over 80 Symposiums/Workshops/Seminars/Training programmes; He is life member of Indian Society of Agronomy, Indian Society of Dryland Agriculture and Indian Society of Root Crops [& North Zonal Representative in Executive Council (2004-2007)]; He has delivered 27 Radio Talks and 6 TV Talks in the state Channels.
