Biography
Dr. Premkumar Jayapal joined as a Project Associate in the Project funded by University Grants Commission, Government of India and later registered for Ph.D. in January 2004. He was awarded doctoral degree in October 2008. He had taken spinal cord injury repair as his area of research and employed human amniotic epithelial cell transplantation along with administration of two Indian siddha medicines to evaluate their efficacy in treatment. He has used contusive spinal cord injury model in rat to test his hypotheses. He is having very good skills in several research techniques such as experimental animal maintenance & surgery, cell culture & labeling with fluorescent dyes, animal behavior scoring to assess locomotor recovery, tissue processing and sectioning both in paraffin and cryo methods, neuronal tract tracing and a variety of neurohistological staining methods. He is also good in quantitative histology through stereological techniques and documentation techniques like videography and editing. He had good exposure in molecular biological techniques such as Immunohistochemistry, western blot, and RT-PCR. He is working as Assistant Professor in Department of Biomedical Engineering, Sathyabama University, Chennai, India.
