Dr. Amit Seth

Assistant Professor and Head of Department
Faculty of Applied Sciences and Biotechnology
Shoolini University
India

Biography

Dr. Seth is an experienced researcher with an in-depth knowledge of molecular biology, microbiology, molecular genetics and protein purification, and proven expertise in enzyme technology. He has investigated the roles of nitrilase gene in Gordonia terrae and nitrile hydratase gene in Rhodococcus rhodochrous PA-34 mutants. Dr. Seth has published papers in impact factor international journals on enzymatic synthesis of important industrial chemicals like benzoic acid, acrylamide, nicotinamide and D-Phenylglycine. In addition he posseses 8 years teaching experience at undergraduate/postgraduate levels and 12 years research experience. He has also successfully guided 2 M.Phil. and 2 Ph.D. students. At Shoolini University, his research is focused on nitrile degrading enzymes and extremophilic xylanases/cellulases for use in bioremediation and microbial production of biochemicals using modern techniques of biotechnology and bioengineering. Dr. Seth has qualified CSIR-UGC (NET) exam is a receipient of CSIR-Senior Research Fellowship. He is currently engaged in exploiting the potential of thermophilic microbes from thermal hot springs of Himachal Himalayas. In this regard he has received funding from DST under the Young Scientist Scheme for harnessing the prospective thermophilic nitrilase producing microbes. Professional Experience Assistant Professor, Faculty of Applied Sciences and Biotechnology, Shoolini University, Solan (2011-present); Assistant Professor and Head of Department, Government Post Graduate College, Karsog, District Mandi, (H.P.) (2010-2011); Two years teaching experience on contract basis at Department of Biotechnology, Himachal Pradesh University, Shimla for M.Sc. Microbiology course (2008-2010)
