Research Interest

Diabetes is a major metabolic disorder and India is holding the dubious title of "diabetic capital" causing heavy loss to the Nation's productivity. Momordica charantia (Bitter gourd or karela or pavakkai) is commonly consumed more by diabetic patients. Available literatures show that fruit pulp and seeds of M. charantia contains two major proteins with antidiabetic (hypoglycemic) activity. My research involves characterization of these proteins by SDS-PAGE/ 2D, peptide sequencing by LC-MS/ MS, isolation of full-length cDNA and production of recombinant proteins for evaluation in animal models. These proteins can be developed into antidiabetic drugs based on this research.
