Chandrani Biswas

Biography

Prof Dr Chandrani Biswas is Associate Professor in the Department of English. After graduating from St Xavier’s College with Honours in English, she completed her Masters and M.Phil programme from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. Prof Biswas did her Ph.D from Jadavpur University, Kolkata on a comparative study of the concept of Otherhood in the writings of two Black women writers in the African American – Toni Morrison and Buchi Emecheta. Her primary interest areas are women’s writings , specifically African writers in English, Romantic poetry and fiction, Modern fiction, Postcolonial literature and translation studies. Her book Women and War: A Study of the novels of Emecheta, Ekwensi and Amadi by Books Plus, New Delhi is a part of the reference section in Jawaharlal Nehru University and many other universities in India. Prof Biswas has been guest lecturer in the University of Calcutta and visits Jawaharlal Nehru University annually to deliver lectures on Postcolonial literature. She has also taught Central Asian diplomats in a Ministry of External Affairs education project and conducted TOEFL examination as a Proctor. She has attended innumerable seminars, conferences and workshops and has presented papers in national and international symposiums. She has also acted as a resource person on Jane Austen and Postcolonial literature in reputed educational institutions. Prof. Chandrani Biswas has presented papers on Black women’s writings in the AfricanAmerican literary tradition at the American Center on several occasions. Currently she is working on several articles on Postcolonial writings.
