Biography
Prof Suchandana Bhattacharyya is a lecturer in the Department of English. After completing her graduation with honours in English from Presidency College, Kolkata, she completed her Masters in English from the University of Calcutta with specialization in American Literature. Thereafter she completed her M.Phil programme in English from University of Calcutta. Prof Bhattacharyya has completed her PhD in English from University of Calcutta, her thesis is entitled Motherhood as Resistance in Selected Texts of Maya Ayelon and Alice Walker. Her areas of interest include the activist writings of Black women writers, poetry and prose compositions in the pre and post Civil war era. Prof Bhattacharyya has been a guest lecturer in English at the undergraduate and post graduate levels of study in Rabindra Bharati Univeristy. Articles related to African- American literature have been published in the departmental journal of the University of Calcutta and The Statesman. She has attended and presented papers at innumerable seminars and workshops on African –American literature especially at the USIS and Women’s Study Circle of Calcutta University and is also a member of the American Study Circle of Jadavpur University (JUSAS)
