Zaid Al Baset

Biography

Mr Zaid Al Baset has been teaching in the Department of Sociology since July 2009. He takes courses Sociology of kinship, marriage and family and sociological theory. His Ph.D. – which he is pursuing at Centre for Studies in Social Sciences, Calcutta – is exploring gender, the supernatural and the middle-class Muslim everyday in West Bengal. His M.Phil project, completed in 2011 from CSSSC, titled ‘Truth and Other Lies: Telling Queer Stories’, interrogated queer, middle-class men’s articulations of ‘self’. He is also involved with an academic project on Men and Feminism in India. He co-edited an Economic and Political Weekly Special Issue on Men Doing Feminism in May 2015. He is presently the coordinator of Foundation Courses in college since 2014.
