Biography
He was educated at Colchester Royal Grammar School before studying for a history degree at Peterhouse, Cambridge University. A keen musician, Mr Quartermain attended the Junior Guildhall School of Music and Drama, was a member of the National Youth Wind Orchestra and was a choral scholar in both Cambridge and Dublin. After graduating, he completed an M.Phil in medieval history at Trinity College, Dublin, where he also tutored undergraduates within the department. Following a period of teaching English overseas, Mr Quartermain completed his PGCE at the University of East Anglia. Appointed to teach history and classical civilisation at Gresham’s School in Norfolk, Mr Quartermain was appointed Head of Sixth Form in 2010. In this role he was responsible for the day-to-day running and strategic development of the Sixth Form. Appointed Deputy Head (Academic) at Brentwood School in 2013, Mr Quartermain has continued to work as a freelance educator for the Holocaust Educational Trust and has recently become a compliance inspector for independent schools. Away from school, Mr Quartermain has served as a primary school governor in the maintained sector and enjoys music, gardening, reading and spending time with his growing family.
