Biography
Dr. Gotam K Jarori is a Professor at School of Biological Sciences , TIFR. His work focuses on Living cells a complex chemical machine where almost all functions are performed by proteins. Understanding the biochemical and biological function(s) of these molecules and correlating these to their structure, is the prime objective of our research. Currently we are investigating some of the proteins from P. falciparum with an objective to understand basic parasite biology and to identify novel drug and vaccine targets against malaria. One such protein is 'enolase', a glycolytic enzyme. His studies show that this protein is present on cell surface, nucleus, cytosol and associate with food vacuole and cytoskeletal structures. His efforts at present are focused on understanding the novel biological functions that enolase may have in parasite nucleus, food vacuole and cell membrane.
