Biography
Dr Tarak Shah has worked as RNTCP Medical Consultant for WHO-India from 2001 to 2007, as well as at Central TB Division (CTD), Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Govt. of India. While working at state and district level, he provided technical support for monitoring, supervision, implementation and surveillance of the Revised National TB Control Program. He also supported various important initiatives such as Lab strengthening, External Quality Assurance for sputum microscopy, Drug Resistance Surveys, Public Private Mix initiatives, Advocacy, Communication and Social Mobilization activities, TB-HIV among others. Between 2008 and 2012, Dr. Shah worked as Scientific Affairs Specialist for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Division for Global HIV/AIDS (CDC/DGHA) in India. He has worked closely with National AIDS Control Organization (NACO), National Technical Support Unit (NACO) and partner SHARE India for development of National Training Curriculum for all 189 District AIDS Prevention and Control Units spread across 22 states in India and facilitated their training and mentoring plans. He supported CDC and NACO in conduct of the technical assessment of the National and State Reference Laboratories for their preparedness towards accreditation. Since April 2012, he is working as Medical Officer for FIND India based in Mumbai. Dr. Shah coordinates the smooth establishment and implementation of new TB diagnostics (LPA, LC, etc.) at 11 TB C&DST labs in Western India region encompassing various government institutes and medical colleges. He has been actively supporting the FIND India office in planning, monitoring-supervision, organizing national and onsite trainings and guiding the labs towards certification and service delivery.
