Biography
He worked as Researcher in the Laboratory of Molecular Spectroscopy of the University of Florence (Italy) and was appointed Aggregate Professor of Physical Chemistry. Teaching courses at the University of Florence: "Physical Chemistry", "Molecular Spectroscopy", "Spectroscopy and Heterogeneous Catalysis", "Microscopy and Raman Spectroscopy of Nanomaterials", SERS (surface-enhanced Raman scattering) and Heterogeneous Catalysis". Since 1986 he was involved in experimental and theoretical studies concerning the SERS (surface-enhanced Raman scattering) effect of molecules adsorbed on metal surfaces, as well as the non-linear effects of polymer monolayers, the Raman spectroscopy of molecules of biological interest in aqueous solution, the fabrication of new nanostructured materials for catalytic purposes, and the detection of traces. Ab-initio calculations by using density functional theory and molecular dynamics were applied to the spectroscopic investigation of different organic ligands adsorbed on silver, gold and copper nanoparticles. He is Member of the American Chemical Society (ACS), of the Italian Chemical Society (SCI) and of Italian Consortium for Science and Technology of Materials (INSTM). He is associated to the European Laboratory for Nonlinear Spectroscopy (LENS).
