Biography
I have been actively involved in remote sensing as well as field based cryospheric research since 2005. Earned my PhD in 2009, on advanced techniques of glacier terrain mapping at per- and sub-pixel level from Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee. Broad areas of my research specialization are remote sensing, digital image processing and information extraction techniques for glaciology. My doctoral work focused on exploring the potential of satellite remote sensing data using prevalent, advanced as well as novel image processing techniques for accurate mapping of various components of mountain glaciers and their extents. Therefore, I expertise in digital image processing techniques and applications of optical and thermal remote sensing in cyrospheric studies. My current research interests include developing robust methodologies for mapping of debris-covered glaciers, characterization of supraglacial debris using field and remote sensing data, snow-line dynamics and its linkages with glacier retreat and multiparametric monitoring of glaciers. Besides, I have been part of many field compaigns in Himalayas during the time of my doctorate, while serving Geological Survey of India (GSI), while working as a faculty at University of Kashmir and presently in Wadia Institute.
