Biography
Dr Sherpa worked as a Junior Research Fellow from 1 2 th Oct 2001-11 th Oct 2003 and Senior Research Fellow from 12 th Oct 2003 to 11 th Oct 2006 in the Institute of Himalayan Bioresource Technology (Council of Scientific and Industrial Research), Pa lampur (H.P.) affiliated to Panjab University, Chandigarh. During his Ph.D., he worked extensively in the survey and molecular characterization of different orchid viruses infecting plant, disease m anagement of the orchid viruses in India. The title of thesis was “Detection and molecular characterizatio n of potexvirus (es) infecting some cultivated orchids”. He was awarded Ph.D. degree from Panjab University, Chandigarh, India in 2006. From Jan 2007 to July 2009, Dr. Sherpa worked as a Postdocto ral Fellow in the Molecular Plant Pathology lab, National Chung Hsing University, Taiwan on project “Development of transgenic plants resistance to broad spectrum tospoviruses through artificial m icroRNA approach” using Nicotiana benthamiana as a model plant with Prof. Shyi-Dong Yeh, Professor, Department of Plan t Pathology, NCHU , Taichung, 402, Taiwan (R.O.C). Presently, Dr. She rpa is working as an assistant Professor in Department of Botany, West Bengal State University, Kolkata, India- 700126 from August 2009 till this date.
