Biography

Dr. Pramil K. Panda received his basic education from Kalahandi district of Odisha, which is his native place. After completing his graduation from Government College, Bhawanipatna he pursued his M.A. and M.Phil. in Sociology from Sambalpur University, Odisha. He stood first class first in M.A. and received University Gold Medal. He received Utkal Gaurav Madhusudan Das Gold Medal too for writing the best dissertation in Masters. He then joined the Doctoral programme of Institute for Social and Economic Change (ISEC), Bangalore as a junior research fellow of the Indian Council of Social Science Research and continued for a year. But subsequently he did his Ph.D. in Sociology from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi as a research fellow of the University Grants Commission. His Doctoral dissertation was on “Peasantisation of Migrant Agricultural Labourers in the Green Revolution Belt of Western Orissa”. After a brief stint of over a year with Participatory Research Institute in Asia (PRIA) as Research Officer, where he conducted participatory trainings especially in the rural areas of Chhattisgarh, his strong academic inclination triggered him to come back to academics and he joined Gujarat Institute of Development Research (GIDR), Ahmedabad as Assistant Professor in 2007, where he undertook various research assignments sponsored by Sir Dorabji Tata Trust, Mumbai, Water Aid and Gujarat Sheep and Wool Development Corporation, Gandhinagar. In 2008, he joined Xavier Institute of Social Service (XISS), Ranchi as Assistant Professor in order to be engaged both in research and teaching simultaneously. Currently he is teaching in the Department of Rural Management. He is the life member of both Indian Sociological Society and Indian Anthropological Association. He has been conferred upon the Bharat Jyoti Award for the year 2008 by the India International Friendship Society, New Delhi and Yuva Manas Samman by Odia Weekly Rastradeep for literary creative writing for the year 1993. He has a total of 11 journal publications out of which 1 is in international journal published outside India. He has also presented research papers in various national and international seminars and conferences all over India. During free time he loves to read different books and writes poems and short stories mostly in his mother tongue Odia.
