Biography
Charles D. Blanke, MD, FACP, FASCO, is a Professor of Medicine in the Division of Hematology and Medical Oncology at Oregon Health and Science University’s Knight Cancer Institute. His research interests have mostly involved targeted systemic agents, and he has been instrumental in the development of imatinib mesylate for use in patients with locally advanced and metastatic gastrointestinal stromal tumors. In addition to serving on the ASCO Board of Directors, Dr. Blanke also serves on the Ethics and Finance Committees. An ASCO member since 1995, he has served on the Publications Committee, Career Development Committee, Cancer Prevention Committee, Journal of Clinical Oncology Editorial Board, and Best of ASCO Planning Committee, among others. He has also served as Chair of the Cancer Education Committee and Co-Chair of the Gastrointestinal Cancers Symposium Program Committee.
