He did his PhD thesis work at the Queensland Brain Institute of the University Queensland, Australia, where he was working on developing a new technology for enrichment of neuronal progenitors from adult neural stem cells. He started his career as an Assistant Professor of Anatomy in Shiraz University of Medical Sciences in 2007. He has done his postdoctoral research in Dr. Brent Reynolds lab at McKnight Brain Institute , University of Florida from 2009-2011. Dr. Azari’s research focuses on development of new technologies for purification and enrichment of defined cell populations from renewable source of stem cells and also activation and recruitment of endogenous neural stem and progenitor cells. The goal of his studies is to devise efficient cell therapeutic approaches for neurological diseases such as Stroke, Spinal cord injuries, Demyelinating diseases and Neurodegenerative diseases.
