Biography

I have studied pharmaceutical sciences before I started my research and academic career in virology. I hold masters degree in microbiology focused on bacteria drug resistance among clinical isolates of Pseudomonas aeruginosa. I have studied virology and completed my PhD research work at the Veterinary Diagnostic laboratory, Department of Veterinary Population Medicine, College of Veterinary Medicine, University of Iran, working on surveillance and diagnosis of avian influenza from wild aquatic birds in the Iran involving virus isolation and molecular techniques of PCR. Following completion of my doctoral degree, I was awarded a governmental postdoctoral scholarship from the Malaysian government in 2011, where I joined Institute of Bioscience, the sole R&D institute in Malaysia at University Putra Malaysia where I worked with teams on influenza and Newcastle diseases viruses involving vaccine study and host immune interactions as well as microbiology research work. Furthermore, in 2013 I was awarded a postdoctoral fellowship from the Academy of Medical Sciences in London UK where I joined the laboratory of Cell and Molecular biology, Postgraduate Medical Institute, Anglia Ruskin University, UK where I was trained on MIQE guidelines and qPCR in the detection and diagnosis of infectious diseases. More recently in 2014, I was awarded a postdoctoral fellowship training at the Department of Microbiology and Immunology, Emory University School of Medicine where I was trained on influenza vaccine developments using virus like particles. I am very passionate of virology, zoonotic infections including for example, Influenza, Coronaviruses, Newcastle disease and other animal and human viral pathogens. I am a diagnostic virologist and microbiologist with subject matter expertise in biosafety and biosecurity, virus isolation, surveillance, diagnosis, antimicrobial resistance, antimicrobial nanotechnology and nanoantibiotics, and viral vaccines.
