Western Michigan University, Department of Chemistry Kalamazoo, MI May, 2013- Present Ph.D Candidate. Expected graduation: April 2018 Advisor: Sherine O. Obare Thesis Title: Rational Design of Nanoscale Bimetallic Catalysts for Conversion of Functionalized Organic Compounds • Designed novel metal nanoparticles for catalyzed reaction using environmentally friendly conditions. • Developed new catalytic protocols for converting biomass into commodity chemicals via hydrogenation process. • Trained undergraduate students in analytical instrumentation and assisted them to accomplish their research projects. Al- Nahrain University, Baghdad, Iraq Master’s degree in analytical Chemistry, College of Science. 2006 Advisor: Shahbaz A. Maki Thesis Title: Water Quality in Some Iraqi Water Resources • Designed new ion selective electrode to measure trace amount of heavy metal contaminants in different water resources. Samples were collected from 18 Iraqi governorates. • Results showed the most contaminated water resources (river, well and tap) all around Iraq. Al- Nahrain University, Baghdad, Iraq Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry, College of Science. 2003 TEACHING EXPERIENCE Part time Instructor Western Michigan University, Department of Chemistry September 2014- present Kalamazoo, MI 49008. • Teaching assistant for organic I laboratory. • Teaching Assistant for the General Chemistry I laboratory. - Instruct, set up the laboratory and demonstrate different chemistry experiments. I assisted the students during the experiment procedure and answer any questions they may have and grade their reports and other related work. • Laboratory Assistant for the Chemical Synthesis class. - Observed and assisted with instruction four senior students. designed research project for each and discussed the results with them. Assisted the students to design scientific poster to show the results. Faculty Member Al-Kufa University, Department of Chemistry January 2007- November 2012 Al-Najaf, Iraq • Thought different chemistry courses such as: analytical chemistry, biochemistry and organic chemistry. • Designed graduation research projects for undergraduate students and advised them to accomplish the research requirements. • Volunteered in many social events in Al-Najaf- Iraq, by giving series of lectures to high school students and teachers. The lectures engage people to keep the environment clean by spread the sustainability methodology.
