Biography

Special interests include: cataract surgery including both topical anaesthesia and small incision phacoemulsification cararact surgery and laser refractive surgery (PRK, LASEK, LASIK). Appointed consultant ophthalmic surgeon 1995 Mater Hospital, Belfast. Currently operating at Kingsbridge Private Hospital, Lisburn Rd Belfast. Area of special interest is cataract and refractive surgery.  In my career to date I have performed more than 20,000 cataracts. For more than 20 years this has been almost exclusively small incision (phacoemulsification) cataract surgery under topical anaesthesia (i.e. drops only).  I also perform refractive lens exchange (rle or clear lens extraction) for those patients deemed unsuitable either by reason of age or degree of refractive error who want to eliminate the need for glasses on a permanent basis. Cataract surgery provides the possibility of eliminating glasses completely and for good regardless of astigmatism, long-sight or short-sight,  using multifocal premium lenses.  if you are interested then please free to discuss this at your consultation and the various options will be gone through.
