Lou Schmukler

Biography

 As president of Global Product Development & Supply (GPS), Lou oversees a worldwide manufacturing network that produces active ingredients and drug products, and supplies our innovative medicines throughout the world.   Since joining the company in 2011, Lou has established a vision for GPS for supporting the company’s BioPharma growth and becoming an industry benchmark manufacturing and supply organization. A commitment to three strategic priorities – scientific and technical excellence, supply chain excellence, and operational excellence – is at the heart of that vision.                   “Supplying a diverse product portfolio for markets around the globe requires state-of-the-art manufacturing capabilities, end-to-end supply chain management, operational excellence and teams with deep scientific and technical expertise,” says Lou. “It also demands a performance culture defined by collaboration and teamwork, where everyone from the leadership to the shop floor is engaged in running and improving the business. This is our focus. This is what being the benchmark is all about.”   Prior to joining Bristol-Myers Squibb, Lou led Pfizer’s worldwide biotech manufacturing operations as senior vice president of the Specialty/Biotechnology Operating Unit. Previously he was responsible for global small molecule pharmaceutical manufacturing and Asia Pacific manufacturing operations for Wyeth, while earlier in his career he held leadership roles at Marion Merrell Dow, Hoffman-LaRoche and Novartis/Sandoz.   Lou is an active member and has held leadership positions in several industry organizations including Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA), BioPhorum, Pharmaceutical International Leadership Forum and the International Society of Pharmaceutical Engineering (ISPE).   He holds a bachelor’s degree in pharmacy from Temple University and a master’s in management from Webster University.
