Biography

Professor Mary McCarron, PhD, MA, RNID, RGN, BNS. F.T.C.D is Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences, Professor of Ageing and Intellectual Disabilities, at Trinity College Dublin. McCarron has been instrumental in leading the related schools of Medicine, Nursing and Midwifery, Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences and Dental Science to develop creative responses to health challenges. As a leader in multidisciplinary health sciences and an international expert in the fields of intellectual disability, ageing, dementia, and palliative care, Professor McCarron is the Principal Investigator and leader of a large multidisciplinary research team for the first longitudinal comparative study on ageing in persons with intellectual disability (IDS-TILDA).  A consultant and spokesperson on ageing related issues for key organizations and an active member of the International Association for the Scientific Study of Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IASSIDD), she plays a critical leadership role in EngAGE, the Trinity College Dublin consortium of over 140 multi-disciplinary researchers on ageing issues.
