Biography
Dan Barry is the manager and senior researcher in the Audio Research Group based in the Department of Electrical Engineering Systems at The Dublin Institute of Technology. He is currently the PI on an EI Innovation Partnership with the SME, Trezur. In the past he has been DIT's writer and technical co-ordinator for the European Framwork project EASAIER, "Enabling Access to Sound Archives through Integration Enrichment and Retrieval", and the EI CFTD - IMAAS "Interactive Music Archive Access System". Audio DSP is the primary focus of Dan's research. Some particular areas of interest include the following: Sound Source Separation, Transcription Systems, Automatic Content Retrieval Systems, Noise Reduction and general speech and musical audio Transformations. In 2004 a patent was taken out on Dan's sound source separation technology which was later licensed to Sony. His research still focuses on both single channel and multi channel source separation algorithms. In 2009 he recieved the Enterprise Ireland ICT commercialisation award.
