Dr Mikel Gainza

Biography

Mikel Gainza graduated from the university of Zaragoza (Spain) and the Dublin Institute of technology with an honours degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering. Following the completion of his undergraduate studies he joined EDSN in Paris, where he worked as a training engineer in the radio communications domain.  In 2002, he returned to the Dublin Institute of technology and completed his PhD research in Digital Audio Signal Processing in 2006. He is currently involved in the Institute's Audio Research Group, where he works as a senior researcher in several projects. This includes the EU Framework project EASAIER (Enabling Access to Sound Archives through Integration, Enrichment and Retrieval)and the IMAAS project, which is funded by Enterprise Ireland.  Mikel is also deeply involved in the supervision of postgraduate students. He currently supervises 5 PhD students and 1 Mphil student in different projects related to music and speech processing. In addition, he lectures "Engineering Computer Applications" in the Department of Electrical Services Engineering.
