Biography
Prof. James Loughman has a specific academic and research interest in preventive eye health interventions for the most common causes of blindness and visual impairment including age-related macular degeneration, diabetes, refractive error and glaucoma. Since October 2008, Prof. Loughman has been seconded to a senior research management role, as Director and Principal Investigator of two Africa based international development projects, the Mozambique Eyecare Project (Link) and the Human Resources for Eye Health initiative, and as Principal Investigator of a national eye health systems project (Glaucoma Care in the Community), a glaucoma clinical trial (Macular Pigment and Glaucoma Trial) and a contact lens development trial (Polysoft Comfort Trial).
