Biography

Jonathan Blackledge (Personal Website: http://blackledge.sharepoint.com) is the Science Foundation Ireland Stokes Professor, an Honorary Professor of Dublin Institute of Technology, Distinguished Professor of Warsaw University of Technology, Poland and Professor Extraordinaire of the University of Western Cape, South Africa.  He graduated in physics from Imperial College, London University in 1980 and gained a PhD in theoretical physics from Kings College, London University in 1984. He was then appointed a Research Fellow of Physics at Kings College from 1984 to 1988, specializing in electromagnetic inverse problems. During this period, he worked on a number of industrial research contracts undertaking theoretical and computational research into the application of inverse solutions for the processing and analysis of electromagnetic signals and images.  He holds Fellowships with a number of scientific, engineering and management Institutes and Societies including the Institute of Physics, the Institute of Mathematics and its Applications, the Institution of Engineering and Technology, the Institute of Mechanical Engineers, the British Computer Society, the Royal Statistical Society, the City and Guilds London Institute, Engineers Ireland, the Institute of Leadership and Management, the Institute of Directors and the Chartered Management Institute. He was made a Freeman of the City of London in July 2007.      

Research Interest

His current research interests include fractal geometry, digital signal and image processing, computer vision, nonlinear dynamical systems modelling, computer network security, and energy management working in both an academic and commercial context.
