Biography

Kevin Duffy is a Lecturer in Media Practice and digital filmmaker with over fifteen-years experience in analogue and digital production in both documentary and narrative. With a varied portfolio of moving and still image work his particular areas of expertise are camera and non-linear editing. He has directed, shot and edited numerous documentary films that have received television broadcast and festival screening in various European countries. Since 2003 he has been lecturing on the BA Media Arts programme at DIT, designing and delivering practice-based modules in both documentary and narrative production. His research areas of interest focus on the emergence of Northern Irish society in this post-conflict era. He is a core member of ‘Borderlines’, a collaborative research project currently recording the life experiences and images of people living in the border region between Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. Some of the documented testimony from this ongoing research project has been published in the book Borderlines: Personal Stories and Experiences from the Border Counties (2007), with a more comprehensive collection to be made available in a DVD-Rom, providing a digital archive of both oral and pictorial evidence to be completed by April 2009. He is also working as a lecturer/practitioner on a migrant media education programme in conjunction with INTRFACE based at the University of Ulster campus in Belfast. In addition to his teaching and research work he continues to be an active documentary practitioner with a number of film projects in development. He co-ordinated and delivered digital video workshops on the CTMP postgraduate summer school with New York University, ‘The Global City and Media Ethnography’ (2006-7).
