Biography
Professor Vincent Toal is the Director of the Centre for Industrial and Engineering optics. He holds a BSc in Experimental Physics (1968, UCD) an MSc in Optoelectronics (1969, QUB) and a PhD in Electronic Engineering (1976, Surrey). He is a Fellow of the Institute of Physics and has over 40 years research experience in applied optics. He has supervised 11 MSc and MPhil graduates by research, and 8 PhD graduates. He has published 60 journal papers, 6 patent applications, 3 book chapters and 1 textbook. Professor Toal was Vice-Chair of COST P8 Materials and Systems for Optical Data Storage and Processing and Manager of the STSM programme in COST MP0604 Optical Micro-Manipulation by Nonlinear Nanophotonics. He is currently manager of the STSM programme in COST MP1205 Advances in Optofluidics: Integration of Optical Control and Photonics with Microfluidics.
