Biography
I currently lecture in international relations and the history of European integration in the Department of History at Maynooth University. I read History and French at University College Cork, where I also completed an MA in European History. I was subsequently awarded a postgraduate scholarship to attend the Collège d'Europe in Bruges, Belgium where I studied European Political and Administrative Studies through French and English. This programme not only provided me with an excellent grounding in EU politics and institutions but also engendered a life long interest in this area of research and teaching. I returned to Ireland to complete a PhD in History and was awarded a Fulbright scholarship, which facilitated a programme of research in the US. I joined Maynooth University in 1990-91 in a permanent full-time capacity. In 2002 I transitioned to a permanent half-time position. I am currently working on a monograph entitled Britain and the Process of European Integration: Continuity and Policy Change from Attlee to Heath.
