Biography
Maurice Devlin is Jean Monnet Professor and Director of the Centre for Youth Research and Development in the Department of Applied Social Studies at NUI Maynooth. Originally from County Derry, he is a graduate of the University of Hull (BA in Drama and English), University College Dublin (MA in English, MSocSc in Sociology), NUI Maynooth (PhD in Sociology) and Trinity College Dublin (MSc in IT in Education). He is a member of the National Youth Work Advisory Committee and Joint Chair of the North South Education and Training Standards Committee (NSETS), the all-Ireland body for the professional endorsement of youth work training. He is the Irish correspondent for the European Knowledge Centre for Youth Policy (EKCYP) and a member of the Pool of European Youth Researchers (established by the European Commission-Council of Europe Youth Partnership). Maurice is currently Vice President for Europe (including the Russian Federation) of the International Sociological Association's Research Committee on Youth (RC34). He was awarded the Jean Monnet Chair by the European Commission in 2012 in recognition of his contribution to youth studies, youth work and youth policy at a European level. The award comes with three years¿ funding to support teaching, research and public engagement related to European integration and youth. Publications include Inequality and the Stereotyping of Young People (Equality Authority, 2006), Young People in Contemporary Ireland (co-authored with Kevin Lalor and ¿ine de R?iste; Gill & Macmillan, 2007), Work in Progress: Case Studies in Participatory Arts with Young People (co-edited with Deirdre Healy; NYCI, 2007), The Purpose and Outcomes of Youth Work (with Anna Gunning; Irish Youth Work Press, 2009) and Standpoints: Attitudes of Young People and Youth Workers to Development and Global Justice Issues (with Hilary Tierney; NYCI, 2010). Maurice chairs the editorial board of the journal Youth Studies Ireland.
