Biography
Kim Mackenzie-Doyle is an internationally recognised product designer, winning multiple worldwide design awards. Formerly, as part of Ireland’s leading product design consultancy Design Partners, Kim designed the world’s best selling computer mouse. She has since headed up one of Ireland's leading design research centres in Ireland, designCORE, based in IT Carlow, where she collaborated on product research and development, design thinking and strategy with Irish SMEs. She was responsible for the colleges first Innovation Partnership and their successful tender for Irelands first Design focused EI Funded Technology Gateway, Design+. Now Kim acts as CDO of tech startup HUB Controls, who have launched their first award winning product the HUB controller, a smart thermostat in late 2016. Ireland's only designed, engineered and manufactured smart thermostat. The company have just secured 3.15M in funding. In early May 2017 Kim will become President of the Institute of Designers Ireland, Irelands largest and oldest design association, with 2000 members nationally. Founded in 1972, the IDI is one Ireland’s largest and oldest association of design professionals. It is recognised at national, EU and international level as the representative body for the Irish design profession. Members are specialists in diverse areas of expertise from interiors and exhibitions to textiles and fashion, every aspect of visual communication including brand development and corporate design, digital media design, product design, design management and design education. IDI’s primary role is to act a voice for these designers at and we always aim to keep people informed, engaged and enlightened on Irish design.
